Caries is not just a bright black spot on a tooth.

There are some signs that a tooth may have a problem:

If food has suddenly started to get stuck between your teeth (and this has never happened before);
If the floss tears or becomes stringy during use (this is because the tooth surface has sharp edges, which is a sign of tooth decay);
If the enamel has changed colour: darker or lighter;
If the tongue feels sharp edges;
Toothache when eating (especially if the damaged tooth reacts to sweet, sour, cold or hot foods).
Sometimes a person with tooth decay may show several signs at the same time, and sometimes just one is enough to realise: it’s time to visit the dentist!

Remember, the best treatment is prevention. That’s why we recommend that you visit your doctor every 6 months for a preventive check-up and your hygienist for dental hygiene.
